The competition recognizes, promotes and awards the best web sites, videos, online advertising, print media and mobile applications. Each year, the Horizon Interactive Awards receives thousands of entries from all over the world and a volunteer panel of industry professionals, from diverse multi-media, graphic design, advertising and marketing backgrounds, review the entries to determine the work that is to be recognized.

Our History


The 2017 Competition was the 16th year that the competition has been held and it has a rich history of recognizing the “best of the best” web sites, videos, mobile applications, advertising and more. The 2017 competition saw over 1000 entries from around the world including 36 out of 50 US States and 16 other countries including: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Malaysia, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, UK, United Arab Emirates.

Taking top honors was the amazing interactive experience display “Fast & Furious 8: Hit The NOS” by Stellar, London that really highlighted the perfect blend of live action technology, social media integration, video and mobile app development. The 2017 competition saw 59 agencies achieve the "Distinguished Agency" award by winning in multiple categories and achiving 4 or more wins.


The 2016 competition (15th Annual) saw over 1200 entries from around the world including 40 out of 50 US States and 20 countries including: Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Germany, Greenland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Turkey, UK, Ukraine and Uruguay.

We crowned our 3rd annual "Top Agency" and "Top Agency Runner Up" awards as well as continued to grow the list of "Distinguished Agency" awards. We introduced several new categories for the web medium including: Experimental, Human Resources, Real Estate, Software, and Sports.


The 2015 (the 14th Annual) competition saw over 1100 entries from 21 countries around world including: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Belgium, Canada, China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Martinique, Malaysia, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey, United Kingdom and nearly all of the 50 United States of America.We crowned our 2nd annual "Top Agency" and "Top Agency Runner Up" awards as well as grew the list of "Distinguished Agencies" in our Distinguished Agency awards. The "Best of Show" award for 2015 was a very unique mix of digital media, print media, live action role playing, social media and billboard advertising which was submitted by Apartment5 out of Stockholm Sweden.


The 2014 (the 13th Annual) competition saw over 1200 entries from 27 countries around world including: Australia, Austria, Brazil, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, Sweden, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, Thailand, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and nearly all 50 of the United States of America. For the first time in our competition history, additional recognition was given to agencies and developers who demonstrated consistent award winning work. The Distinguished Agency honor was given to those agencies and developers who won at least 4 awards and the inaugural Top Agency and Top Agency Runner-up were crowned.


The 2013 (the 12th Annual) competition saw over 1600 entries from 24 different countries around the world including: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and nearly all 50 of the United States of America. The competition was fierce in all categories making the 2013 one of the Internet's best showcases of outstanding work from around the world.


The 2012 competition saw over 1000 entries from over 25 countries around world including: including: Austria, Australia, Brazil, Belgium, Canada, China, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Martinique, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, and nearly all 50 of the United States of America. Responsive Design was added as a category as well as food / restaurant, financial, and travel & tourism.


The 2011 Competition marked the 10th year that the competition has been held and dubbed our “10th Anniversary” competition and saw over 1000 entries from around the world including nearly all 50 States and over 20 other countries including: Turkey, China, Spain, UAE, Canada, France, Russia, Taiwan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Russia, Australia, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Germany. 2011 saw the new category for mobile apps.


The 2010 competition saw over 1000 entries from around the world including nearly all 50 States and over 22 other countries including: Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Egypt, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, UAE, and the United Kingdom.


The 2009 competition was even larger than the previous competitions receiving , highlighting the best work from all over the globe. The 8th annual competiton received more international entries than ever before spanning 28 different countries and nearly all 50 US States. New for 2009 was the advertising medium where the best online ads were featured.


In 2008, the 7th annual competition was the largest yet with just over 1000 entries from 26 different countries and nearly all 50 U.S. States. Additionally, a new approach to judging was introduced which utilizes an end-user panel and various industry professionals outside the interactive media industry. The goal is to provide a clear picture of a solution that not only looks fantastic but clearly communicates a message and purpose.


The 2007 competition saw just under 1000 entries from 24 countries around world including: Australia, Canada, Chech Republic, Columbia, Croatia, Germany, Egypt, Spain, France, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, Syria, Thailand, Turkey, Taiwan and nearly all 50 of the United States.


2006 was the 5th annual competition and the entry field nearly doubled again. Entries were received from 17 countries including: Australia, Canada, Croatia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Malaysia, Indonesia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Italy, Singapore, South Africa, United Kingdom, and Nearly all 50 US States. NEW FOR 2006 were the Intranet / Internal Communication, News and Magazine, and Video / Short Film categories.


A milestone for the competition, 2005 nearly doubled the 2004 entry field. Entries were received from: Australia,Brazil,Canada,France, Germany, India, Japan, New Zealand, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, Switzerland, United Kingdom and nearly all 50 US states. Judges saw a renewed emphasis on graphic design and overall creativity in conjunction with the delivery of a clear message and purpose. Added for 2005 were the Video Game, Political and Banner ad/ Email categories.


Building on the successes of the 2003 competition, 2004 marked the largest and most diverse entry field to date. The overall competition was restructured to include special awards of distinction including: Best of Show, Best of Category (for all 8 categories), Best Use of Video, Best Use of Audio and the International Award of Distinction for entries that originated outside the USA A new Education / Training category was also added to honor outstanding achievement in media that contained educational value.


The 2003 competition was a large and competitive entry field. Again, the Horizon Interactive Awards received hundreds of entries from all over the world including: Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom and over 20 states in the USA. New for 2003 was the Flash category which featured some innovative and unique animation solutions. In 2003, the HIA become a sponsor of the FlashKit Conference in San Jose, California. This sponsorship renews the emphasis on furthering the recognition to designers and developers who creatively use Flash as a part of their interactive media toolkit.


The Inaugural 2002 international awards competition received hundreds of entries from many countries including: USA, Germany, Mexico, and Norway. While the 2002 competition was a huge success, it was merely the beginning in what will be a long tradition of providing recognition to deserving interactive media developers all over the world. Budgets and promotions were limited but the competition was able to recognize some top notch work from talented designers and developers. This competition was officially the first Horizon Interactive Awards.
