DESCRIPTION: The Mass Big Data Initiative (MassBigData) represents the first significant state-sponsored initiative to promote Big Data in the nation. Massachusetts’ effort connects industry, academia, job seekers, and state agencies through a number of sponsored initiatives such as hackathons, meet ups, and traditional conferences. These activities seek to strengthen the regional Mass Big Data ecosystem and catalyze innovation by increasing opportunities for individuals and organizations to connect and engage in Big Data projects and partnerships. The newly launched website supports this effort with an interactive industry map, uniquely designed event calendar, and twitter Big Data visualization that presents social media conversations about Big Data taking place in the state as a heat map. The job board imports and integrates regional Big Data job listings from multiple third party job sites as well as from local organizations’ job pages. The site thus serves as a repository and real-time gateway to Mass Big Data regional activity. To ensure ease of administration, a customized deployment of the SilverStripe 3.1 content management solution allows the sponsoring agency, the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, to generate, modify and maintain all content, data connections and visualizations.
